Spoth
Now that DG has quieted down, I thought that I would post a SPOTH (Strange Plant Of The Hour), just because I haven’t for a while. Adromischus Cristatus That is the “Crinkle Leaf Plant”. It has some very tiny, nice … Continue reading

Ledebouria socialis
Ledebouria socialis … or … Silver squill, wood hyacinth, leopard lily. We are into SPOTH’s again. This one is really tiny. The whole plant is about 6 inches tall. This is what the flower stem looks like. Each of the … Continue reading

Tradescantia (Cyanotis) somaliensis (Pussy Ears)
Wow. That’s a mouthful, even for a SPOTH. I guess they get the name from the tiny little flower. It has a spectacular blue color. Unlike our usual Man-Eating entries, this one looks kind of cuddly and huggable. https://worldofsucculents.com/cyanotis-somaliensis-pussy-ears/

Rock
Maybe that should be more like… ROCK!!! So…. here is the backstory on the rock. Take a look at the thermometer. Got that? Now hold that thought. So, the kids (wife and son) went out in that weather to plant … Continue reading
Jack-in-the-pulpit
Looking for a sign of spring? How’s this? That is, of course, a Jack-in-the-pulpit, however with a slight difference. This one is an Arisaema sikokianum, the Japanese Jack-in-the-pulpit. According to the Wikipedia, and it has to be true if it is from the … Continue reading

Spoth
It has been a while since I have posted a SPOTH. So here is one that just bloomed. That’s pretty gnarly. The flowers aren’t all that strange though. In case you want to know what it is, here is the … Continue reading

Woollybear Ate my SPOTH
We found a disconcerting guest in our basement….. a woollybear taking a nap next to a former SPOTH. The decapitated plant in the pot used to be a SPOTH. Here is a closer look. On the left, you can see … Continue reading

Volunteer SPOTH
We have a volunteer SPOTH growing in our Alpine Garden. This is our Alpine garden: The Alpine Garden is basically a pile of rocks that contains plants that usually grow on rocky mountain tops. They are very hardy plants that … Continue reading
