I had some curly maple cutoffs left over from other projects that were too small to do much with, so I started making little jewelry boxes out of them. I asked my son if he would like a jewelry box, and he said:
“If you carve a dragon on the lid.”
Yikes. I had never done any significant wood carving, much less dragon carving, but I am usually up for a double-dare. So I got my hands on some carving tools, and this is what I came up with.
It’s the box with the dragon lid.
Not bad for a first try.
